Michael John White 84, born in Washington, DC. died in New York January 17th, 2019. He attended St. Aloysius and Catholic University in Washington DC. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Castellanos, and sisters Benita, Mary and Connie. He is survived by his loving sister, Barta Barnum (Bill Trenn) Tucson AZ; his best friend, devoted caregiver and niece, Veronica Barnum Moore in New York; cousins, nephews and nieces; and many friends. Michael was a talented artist who painted, sang and played the piano beautifully. He loved music, live theater, movies and all art forms. He amassed and shared his encyclopedic knowledge of actors’ careers, singers’ repertoires and other facts about the performing arts, both before and after the internet. He used this knowledge when he worked at ASCAP and HBO. After retirement, he worked at St. Francis Church in Manhattan. He had many fond memories of time with friends he made at ASCAP and HBO, playing and singing at Spindletop, and helping at St Francis. New York was his home for over 60 years, and he relished all the arts the city had to offer. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy a play, a song, a movie, or a smile and think of Michael. Don and I are both saddened by Michael’s death. I appreciated his knowledge of the New York theater scene. I also recall his generous efforts to head to the box office and arrange for the best possible seats, especially for Elaine Stritch’s one-woman show. He was a dear, fun and complex man. I’m glad I got to know him and see him last fall.
