Beloved family man
Edward James Saddler, 84, of West Brighton passed on Nov. 1, 2016, of Alzheimer’s disease. Dad was born in Norfolk, Va., and moved to Staten Island in 1952 after falling in love with Mom, Lois Jane Tramell Saddler. Mom and Dad were married for 60 years. Three children followed, Mark Edward, Brian Keith, and Lori Renee. Mark Edward passed on in 1981.
Dad was an HVAC supervisor in various buildings in Manhattan. He was proud and honored to be hired as the refrigeration engineer supervisor for the World Trade Center complex in 1970. He was the eighth mechanical employee hired, taking the family on tours as the floors were finished. He survived the Feb. 26, 1993, bombing at his desk on the B4 level and guided rescue crews through the damage. He retired in 1998 after 28 years.
Dad, also known as Pop, loved spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren, antique car and truck shows, and helping Lori in the garden.
Pop will be tremendously missed by his wife, Lois; children, Brian and Lori; daughter-in-law, Debra; grandchildren, Thomas and Jessica, and his sister, Delores. He was predeceased by siblings, Bill, John and Irene.
Funeral will be from Cherubini-McInerny Funeral Home (formerly Meislohn-Silvie) on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. Burial is at Oceanview Cemetery in Staten Island, N.Y. The family will be receiving friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
