Jane Boyd, 86
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend
Jane Boyd, 86, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Jan. 25, 2020.
Jane was born on May 8, 1933 in West Brighton, Staten Island. A devoted homemaker and a devout Christian, raised in the Dutch Reformed Church of Staten Island, Jane spent 61 years with her beloved husband, Tom, who she met in the early 1950s when working at the same company as him, Robin Line.
Tom and Jane married in 1957 and built a life in West Brighton, raising four boys and one daughter until she passed away at a young age from leukemia.
Jane loved nothing more than watching her grandchildren play sports, vacationing together with her family every year during the summer, celebrating her grandchildren’s celebratory milestones and holidays with her family, or hosting her signature event, the regular lunch gatherings at her house on Saturdays.
“Our family was my mother’s greatest joy. She was incredibly proud of all of us, taking pride in the family’s growth over the years, treating the women her sons married as true daughters, and showering her grandchildren with immense love and, if needed, a solid piece of straightforward advice and guidance,” said her son Bill Boyd.
An incredibly important part of Jane’s life was her Clove Lakes Place neighbors. The stories she often shared about sharing an afternoon cup coffee with them in her backyard when they were all raising young children, to the day trips they took together to entertain the tribe of children on the block, to the annual block parties, to the support received after the passing of her husband, will always be a reminder to her family that her neighbors were an incredibly important part of her life.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, and her daughter, Susan.
She is survived by her sons, Tom Jr., Bill, Bob, and Tim and her “daughters,” Barbara, Marlene, Laura, and Christine; her grandchildren, Kevin, Erica, Timmy, Justin, Chris, Emma, Julie, Bryan, and Andrew.
In addition to a long career at Braisted and Braisted as a legal secretary, Jane was an elder at the Dutch Reformed Church of Staten Island and an officer of the Blessed Sacrament Mother’s Guild.
Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, followed by a private cremation.
