Carmelo Baio passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the age of 92.
Born in Agrigento, Italy in 1927, Carmelo immigrated to the United States (New York) in 1964. He met and married the love of his life, Rosemary Fundaro and they had a beautiful daughter, Dina.
Carmelo worked several jobs but enjoyed mostly catering from his house, making the best “Rice Balls” in town and he was also known in the neighborhood as “Mr. Rice Ball Man”. When he wasn’t making his favorite foods, he would tend to his garden, make homemade wine and as his family would say, “He would tinker in his tool shop, fixing anything and everything!!!”.
Carmelo is survived by his loving wife Rosemary of 54 years, his beloved daughter, Dina Baio-McLaughlin and her husband, John McLaughlin, his cherished grandson, JT McLaughlin and his beloved brother, Diego Baio. As well, he is also survived by his son-in-law, Sal Chierico and his grandson Salvatore from his late daughter, AnnaMarie, as well as 2 great grandchildren.
He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

My deepest sympathies to the Baio family. I did not know Mr. Baio personally, but I have known his daughter Dina for years. Dina is an intelligent, kind, generous woman who I know is a credit to the way her father loved, raised, and guided her throughout his life. The kind of person that Dina is speaks volumes to the kind of persons her parents are, and the values they instilled.
May your memories of Mr. Baio comfort you as you mourn. Please know that my family and I are here for your family and will keep you in our prayers.

John and I are visiting our son in South Carolina and regret we cannot give our condolences in person. Both you and Carmelo were the best neighbors we could have had. I remember when Carmelo gave us several trays of rice balls and potato croquettes to bring to our son John at the Naval Academy. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I am so sad to hear this news. I face book message him every Christmas with pics of the rice balls I make with his recipe???? for my sons. I have such fond memories of him and Rosemary. My grandmother, Lena Baio Restivo was his cousin.
