Laura Smigielski (nee Bros) 86, of West Brighton passed away on September 11th, after a brief illness. Laura was a lifelong Staten Islander. She was a proud Avon representative for over 40 years. She was a great cook and made the best Lasagna. Her birthday was on Halloween and her daughter, Janet would throw a huge neighborhood party in her honor with enough food and drinks to feed an army.
Laura will be loved and missed by her children Anthony (Andrea), Janet (Robert) and Elaine (Marlene). Her precious grandchildren, Steven, Joshua and Jessica. Her sister Margaret Scheider (Howard) and her nephews John & Frank (Pat) Bros and niece, Sandra Parker.

Laura was a great neighbor and friend. She always had a big smile. We met Laura when we moved to our home in 1997 and she welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms. She was a terrific and loving lady. Our hearts are saddened by her loss, but she will certainly not be forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family. I wish to give Laura’s children and grandchildren my sincere condolences. I worked many years at JCPenneys with Laura who always had a smile on her face and always enjoyed a good laugh with her fellow coworkers who she kept in touch with all these years after they all retired. She was fortunate to have loving children who took wonderful care of her and now may she Rest In Peace as she is reunited with her husband and her fellow coworkers who have past before her.
Glad I had the opportunity to run into Laura at a doctors office a few months ago since with the virus everyone had kept their distance. We past the time talking about old times and I will cherish that last time I saw her and Janet.
Rest In Peace Laura. We will miss your smile and laugh.

I’ll always remember my neighbor Laura’s great smile and the way she was ready to laugh and have a fun chat with me. She used to yell out the window to me almost every time I did the yard work and we’d end up chatting, often about her grandkids or an upcoming visit with one of her kids. Remembering her warm and neighborly spirit will forever remain in my heart. May she rest in peace with Al!
To Laura’s family, words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of your mother. Please accept my condolences.
With Love, Margot

I met Laura when I started dating my husband George in 1976 he lived nextdoor to her. One of my best memories will be no matter how long it’s been since I seen Laura she would always say remember when you and your son came over to the fence to talk to me and the dog pissed on your son. And we would laugh like crazy. So glad I got to see her when she came to Florida. She will always hold a special part of my heart. Condolences to Tony Janet and Elaine.
