Ronald (Ronnie) E. Simonson, 56
A native and life-long Staten Islander, Ronnie grew up in Prince’s Bay where he attended St. Joseph St. Thomas Grammar School, I.S. 34 and Tottenville High School (1984).
After High School Ronnie worked at Mulvihill Electrical before joining the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union (608/157) in 1987, where he worked for the NYC Department of Homeless Services for 30 years. Never one to sit still, retirement was not a word in Ronnie’s vocabulary. He was a master carpenter and used his vast skills to help out many family members and friends. He was extremely proud to work on several homes for veterans sponsored by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He also worked on the set-up of the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run, in Manhattan, since its inception in 2002.
Ronnie was a loving husband, of 33 years, to his kindergarten sweetheart, Karen (Ellis). He was the extremely proud father of Robert, Ronald (Kelly Doran) and Melissa (James Bertucci). Ronnie predeceased his parents, Arthur and Mary Alice Simonson and leaves four siblings; Arthur (Kathleen), Mary Graham (Harry), Thomas (Jessica) and Daniel (Noel) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ronnie loved skiing, spending time with his extended family at the Jersey Shore, and cruising. He truly loved helping others, and was a person that was on top of everyone’s speed dial and he always responded. He will be sorely missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org), in his name would be appreciated.
