Josephine M. Appelt (nee Raducha), age 96, passed away on December 17 surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Joanne Codd, in Reisterstown, MD.
Born March 13, 1926 in Staten Island, she was the daughter of Polish immigrants, the late Vincent and Mary Raducha. She is preceded in death by her eleven siblings–brothers, John, Vincent Jr., Stanley, Sigismund, Louis, and Edward Raducha; and sisters, Bessie Stroud, Clara O’Brien, Julia Krieg, Nell Siuzdak, and Florence Raducha.
She was the beloved wife of the late Henry W. (Dutch) Appelt for 57 years. Loving mother of the late Henry A. Appelt and the late Raymond P. Appelt.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Codd and her husband Bernard, along with their children David, Adam, Erica, and Nicholas and his wife Brittany and their children, Isabella, Miles, and Gabriella; by her daughter Dianne Baroz and her husband Robert, along with their sons, Timothy and James; by grandson Ryan Appelt and his wife Kelle along with their sons, Madden and Maverick; and by her granddaughter Rachel Matibag and her husband, Rene.
Josephine lived in Port Richmond for many years before moving to Elm Park. She was employed by Maidenform in Bayonne, NJ, before becoming a homemaker. She had an adventurous spirit, who loved traveling to Atlantic City to play the slots and was also an avid scratch-off fan. She will always be remembered for her lemon meringue pie; listening to the Sunday morning polka show; and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every evening.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, December 27, from 2–4 pm and 7-9 pm at Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Avenue. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28, at 10 am at the Church of Saint Rita, 281 Bradley Avenue. Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
