Maureen E. Harmon, 55, a loving Wife, Beloved sister, and Caring Aunt, passed away at Richmond University Medical Center on Sunday, August 20th, 2023.
Maureen Lynch was born on Staten Island to Elizabeth Lynch and Martin Lynch on January 12th, 1968. Some say the only reason the NY Jets won Super Bowl III is because it was held on Maureen’s 1st birthday. This has been widely debated in knowledgeable academic circles.
She is survived by her Husband Shawn C. Harmon, a dedicated and loving man. Shawn deeply loved and cared for Maureen and was her confidant and partner-in-crime in all affairs. She is also survived by her Siblings, Leah K. Lee, nee Lynch, and John P. Lynch, Bother-In-Law John Lee, and her Nephew Jake P. Lynch. Maureen was instrumental in raising her Siblings and Jake and was a lifelong source of love, generosity, inspiration, and fun to them all. Maureen is also survived by Aunts Alexis & Sharon, Uncles Mark & Paul, and many Cousins. They are all devastated by this loss.
Maureen graduated from James Madison High School in 1986 and went on to attend Brooklyn College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Maureen eventually attained a Masters in Public Administration from Baruch College. Soon after, she began a career at NYC Health & Hospital Corporation where she remained until the time of her death. Maureen was proud of the work she did for her City and of the friends she made there. She was particularly invaluable to our City during the Covid-19 pandemic. Maureen and dozens of other employees were tasked with virtually maintaining the logistical integrity of a system that was severely taxed. Their hard work and dedication were contributing factors in helping our City survive and move forward during and after a deadly pandemic.
Maureen also believed in Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Wookies, and all things X-Files. Stay alert.
Maureen and Shawn are devout Walt Disney fans and not only spent many of their vacations at the different resorts the Magical Kingdom has to offer but they were also married at Disney World in 2017. Maureen took great joy in all things Disney and had a childlike exuberance in sharing her love for visits. Many a relative or friend would seek Maureen’s advice on the best way to navigate a trip to Disney. Maureen truly believed what Walt Disney once said: “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.”
Maureen had a creative flair in her gift-giving and was well known for her elaborately decorated and generously filled gift boxes. She was always thoughtful, unique, and personal regardless of the occasion or event.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, August 27th, 4 pm – 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church, located at 1634 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314.

Shawn, Leah, John and Jake, I am at a loss for words but whoever wrote this obituary for Maureen, hit it right on the head. She was all those things and so much more. Unless you knew the true Moe, you never knew her. She was my friend from working at TRU, and even though we were so many years apart, she was a part of me and will always be. We went on a weekend trip to Atlantic City and had so many laughs and found an area full of leaves and just threw ourselves on the ground and laughed and laughed. I will keep her memories alive and locked in my heart and I am so thankful to Shawn for coming into her life and giving her the love and compassion that she so deserved. Rest in Heavenly Peace my dear Friend, You are forever in my heart, Always

I’ve worked with Maureen at NYC Health + Hospitals for almost 10 years. She was always a smiling and pleasure to be around lady. There are no words to convey how terrible this is.
We will always remember Maureen – a beautiful person that she was and her legacy lives on in you.

I will always remember sitting and chatting with her on the ferry coming home from work. While I’m not related, I found it endearing that she would refer to me as Uncle Joey. I was very sorry to hear about Maureen’s passing. May her memory be eternal. She was a kind and gentle soul.
I worked with Maureen at H+H for 8 years and participated in her bridal shower celebration, ahead of her nuptials. She was so happy to share her love of Disney with us all!
She always remembered me on Veteran’s Day. I served in the US Navy, like Shawn.
