February 21, 1944~ June 15, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ricardo Salazar on June 15, 2024. Born on February 21, 1944, in Victoria de Las Tunas, Cuba, to Ricardo Salazar Gonzalez and Caridad Montero de la Cruz, Ricardo was one of eight siblings who grew up in a vibrant and loving family.
In 1980, Ricardo made the brave decision to migrate to the United States, seeking a better life for himself and his family. As a skilled carpenter, he built not only homes and structures but also a foundation of love and support for his loved ones. Ricardo was a man of integrity and selflessness, always putting his family’s needs above his own and providing for them without expecting anything in return.
Ricardo is survived by his four children: Ricardo, Mercedes, Matthew, and Patrick Salazar, each of whom carries forward his legacy of strength and love. Ricardo’s deep faith in God guided him throughout his life, and he lived by a strong moral code of respect and dignity. He faced every challenge with courage and resilience, always holding his head high.
Beyond his work, Ricardo was a man of many talents and interests. He was a skilled baseball player, a passionate singer, and a connoisseur of the arts, history, and politics. His ability to captivate and inspire others with his words was remarkable, and his energy was truly infectious. Ricardo had a heart full of compassion, always ready to defend and care for those in need.
Ricardo’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and perseverance. He touched the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on in the memories of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the time they had with him.
A memorial service to celebrate Ricardo’s life will be held on July 6th, 2024 at St. Johns Lutheran Church – 216 Jewett Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ricardo’s memory to De La Salle Academy. ( https://www.dlsanyc.org )
