Colette “Frenchie” Obracevic, nee Lingee, 94 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 25, 2020.
Born and raised in Raucourt, France, Colette met the love of her life, an American soldier named Nikola Obracevic and became his war bride on September 25, 1945, which this year would have been their 75th wedding anniversary.
They moved to Staten Island, NY where they raised their two beautiful daughters together. Colette had a very close relationship with her girls. They were near and dear to her heart. She was a very outgoing lady who would socialize with everyone especially while she worked. Colette worked for Major’s Department Store and at Young Set as a retail associate.
During her free time, Colette enjoyed shopping, knitting and especially eating all kinds of Italian food but most of all, she loved spending her time with her loving family and her beloved cats, Precious and Morris.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nikola on December 24, 1994.
Colette is survived by her loving daughters, Helene Obracevic and Paulette Yellovich and son-in-law, Peter.

It was very sad to hear of Colette’s passing. I did not have the pleasure of meeting her, but I have known her wonderful daughter, one of truest friends, Paulette (PY), for over 30 years and being Colette’s daughter makes me feel as if I did know Colette. May you Rest In Peace sweet lady and fly with the angels. May God be with PY, Pete and Helene during this difficult time.

My condolences for the loss of your mommy. I had the pleasure of meeting Colette when she was in California. I lived next door to her daughter Paulette, we have been best friends for many years. Paulette and I took Colette to Mimi’s for lunch on that visit, Colette loved the French atmosphere, I loved her French accent so much. We had a lot of good laughs and fun. We kept in contact for many years. Helene being there for your mom all those years, you will rewarded. RIP my friend 🙏 your finally home. 😘

Dear Mommy,
A note to let you know how much we love you! Thank you for the loving care you have always shown us growing up, even though you dressed us like twins until Junior High School! You were the best Mom, and that’s why we turned out to be decent human beings. As teenagers, you always waited up for us when we had gone out and returned home a little later than curfew. Thanks for covering for us if Daddy got up. He was more strict than you. You and Daddy gave us a great life! You were admired by so many and had so many friends and acquaintances. You are now in heaven with a lot of those friends. Daddy couldn’t have asked you to join him at no better time than on your 75th wedding anniversary. We’ll begin to celebrate your wedding anniversary and celebration of life at the same time from now on. Say hello to Daddy for us and to a few of our favorite people growing up, Denise, Aunt Kathy and Joann. You will always be in our hearts. With so much love and gratitude, your loving daughters Paulette, Helene and your “son” Peter. XO
