February 7, 1934 – October 11, 2023
Staten Island native Faye Engles, nee Corson, passed away on Oct. 11, after falling ill last week. Faye was born and raised on Staten Island, and was a descendant of the original Corson family who settled here from Holland in the 1600’s.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bill Van Pelt. Together they travelled and went on many trips around the world. They frequently went to Atlantic City, NJ, and were active in several AARP groups. They cared for many cats over the years, both domestic and feral. When the local ASPCA closed its doors years ago, Faye took it upon herself to catch loose dogs she found. She kept food, water and a leash in her car. She would care for them until they were picked up. Faye was a retired nurse who spent most of her career at Eger Nursing Home. She also briefly was a Real Estate Agent.
She was the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Corson (nee Clarke). She was born in Richmond Valley and raised in Westerleigh. She graduated from Port Richmond High School. She married and had three children with James Engles (deceased) – Gregg Engles, Gail Engles (Miraglia), and Kat Troiano. She is survived by her brother Robert Corson and was predeceased by their brother Charles.
