Janina…when I first met you the chemistry between us was null and void. Then one day you chose me as your partner for a Hazmat recertification exercise. We crawled through a smoke-filled tunnel together in the dark with full Hazmat gear and attire. The things we spoke about in that tunnel led us to a great friendship. You always went out of your way to stay in touch, and I appreciate that immensely. I am saddened by your departure but excited by the promise of seeing you again. As always, you won’t be a stranger.

Janina had a huge presence and spirit that will not soon be forgotten. Her energy was inspirational, and her compassion, especially for her cats, showed just what a big heart she had. It’s hard to believe that she’s no longer with us, but she’ll always be remembered.

Janina…
I can’t bring myself to accept that the sun will shine without you… Thank you for all you have given us, taught us, and for all of your sacrifices… you never stopped grinding, and when things were hard, and we needed help, you were always there, ready, willing, and able… if the families only knew all that you were, there would be parades in the streets will millions shouting thank you for your service… I pray that you hear those chants in the echoes of our hearts and in the tears we cry because we miss you so much! We’ll never forget you, and we promise to make you proud… Rest easy now Queen… we’ll take it from here… love you always…

Janina and I followed the same journey working at both Montefiore and OCME together, sharing many smiles and laughter over the years. We shared a passion for helping the stray cats of the Bronx & they lost a hero too. The heavens gained a bright star when we lost you – we will think of you often. Sleep well my friend xxx
