Martin Walter Romanski 58, of Long Island City, NY has returned to the Lord on April 16, 2023.
Born on May 16, 1964, in Long Beach, California, Martin (Marty) was the son of Walter Romanski and Josephine (Christy) Romanski. He was preceded in death by his father, and now joins him in eternal life, and we know that it was a joyous reunion. Martin is survived by his mother, Josephine, his sisters Marianne Romanski, Pittsburgh, PA., Dianne McIntyre (Steve), Pittsburgh, PA., and his brother Harry Romanski, Orlando, Fl.
Martin was his own man, he lived his life with humility, kindness, and respect for others. He had a deep love for Jesus Christ and a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. He was a diehard Notre Dame football fan and would not miss a game. You would never see him without his “Fighting Irish” cap on. He would often tell his four nieces and nephew “play like champions today”, and nothing gave him greater joy than hearing about their many achievements. His greatest friends were his mom and dad who spent many happy times in New York with him, nothing gave him greater joy than being with his family.
Martin attended California State University Long Beach, where he earned undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in cinematography. He was an accomplished filmmaker who produced several documentaries including “An Immigrants Story” and “The Flying Tigers”. Besides filmmaking, Martin’s other passion was flying. He loved everything regarding aviation since he was a little boy, and his proudest moment was when he earned his private pilot’s license. You could find him on the weekends at Teterboro Airport immersed in every aspect of flying. He also was a very talented guitarist who played at various venues in NYC. Martin idolized Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, and loved the “Blues”.
Martin lived in NYC for 35 years and loved every minute. He was a good friend to many people that he encountered in his life, and always made sure that they made it home all right.
Marty, our dearest son, brother, uncle, friend, we will miss you. We know that you will find your happiness in heaven.
A memorial service is planned in Pittsburgh, PA., to celebrate Marty’s life and his return to his heavenly home. May his soul soar high among the clouds, laughing in delight, with his best friend by his side, his father. And may his family find comfort in the lord’s love, knowing that we will see him again.

My big brother. My best man. The best uncle to my children. I will miss You. I hope You are in peace and hopefuly in the company of our Father. I will see You soon. Save me a bar stool
Athena Romanski says
Uncle Marty,
Thank you for always being such a kind, supportive, giving, best uncle I could ever have. I will greatly miss our talks about different broadway shows, late night calls to show me a song you say I just had to listen to, discussions on future projects you envisioned I could make come to life (I promise, I will make Oleana happen) and lessons on the best playwrights like Mamet. Some of the best times I’ve had in my life were spent in the months together in NYC, and I’ll never forget the memories that we’ve made together. I know you’re with Grandpa now, probably cracking up all of Heaven with your infectious laugh that I already miss so much. I love you so very much.
Athena,
P.S. Always remember, It’s “break a leg”, not “break my uncle’s leg”.
Marianne Romanski says
Marty,
All I can say is that I love you. Nothing will be the same without you in the world. My heart is broken. I know you are with dad and that gives me great comfort. Everytime I see an airplane I think about us talking about your favorite DC-8. Someone told me a long time ago how special you were. You were an innocent. You always had a child’s perspective that kept you pure, fresh, with boundless enthusiasm for life. My dear baby brother do you know how much I love you, I think you do. I will drink a toast to a life well lived and he did it his way, baby.
Until we see each other again.
Your sister always
Marianne

How to Write About Marty. He was my buddy and travel companion to the British Isles and cohort in a lot of other fun adventures. He was always patient and kind to me and that is how I will remember him.
Marty, I will always remember your playful smile and soft, forgiving eyes. You and I were truly friends. I know you and I will be looking over the New York Skyline in your new apartment (rent controlled, of course) in heaven someday.

My deepest sympathy to the Romanski family. I just got back from being out of the country for the last 6 months very hard news to come back to. I had dinner with Martin the day before I left and wanted him to visit me in London, but he was to busy. I knew Martin over the years, edited many projects with him. Always the perfectionist. He always spoke of his family and childhood that I felt I knew his family. Please know that he will greatly missed. He was a filmmaker with a profound eye. He could film the ordinary and create the extraordinary. I am going to miss you my dear friend. I wish the family healing and love.
