January 4, 1960 ~ August 10, 2024
Vina Bustillo was born to the late Alicia Bustillo and Cito Ellis on January 4, 1960 in Tela, Atlántida, Honduras. Vina was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Staten Island University Hospital, in Staten Island, NY.
As a young girl, Vina attended Vicente Caceres school in Tela, Honduras. She enjoyed playing basketball and soccer. She always loved music and dancing and traveled to Tegucigalpa with a dance group. She was an energetic firecracker!
Vina married Walter Stanley, in 1979 and that same year, they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Angela.
Vina immigrated to the United States in 1984 when she was 23 years old. She first lived in the Bronx, NY, and then settled on Staten Island with her family.
Vina loved children and worked as a nanny on Long Island for many years. She also worked for several years at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Vina was always a kind and caring person, who spent many years working as a caretaker and home health aide.
Vina was a special woman, who was always happy, friendly, funny and charismatic. She loved to dress nicely and was a queen to her family. She was a beautiful soul inside and out! She loved to dance, cook for friends and family, and let’s not forget her scratch offs (a.k.a “los cartones”).
Vina was a devout Catholic and attended the Our Lady of Good Counsel church in Staten Island, NY.
In addition to her parents, Vina was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, and her two siblings, Anthony Hendricks and Carmen Ellis Bustillo.
Vina will be missed dearly by her beloved daughter, Angela Bustillo Powery (Trent) of Staten Island, NY, her 8 siblings, Herbert Hendricks of Tela, Honduras, Roy Ellis of Belize, Honduras, George Bustillo (Narda) of Olanchito, Honduras, Ruth Ellis of Pasadena, CA, Norma Cordova (Raul) of Bronx, NY, Andres Bustillo of Tela, Honduras, Jose Antonio Hendricks of Raleigh, NC, Daniel Hendricks (Sandra) of Tela, Honduras and her aunt, Guillermina Bustillo of Tela, Honduras.
Vina also leaves behind lifelong friends, Norma Andrade, Claudia Belisle, Lilian Andrade and Clara Miller, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends who will cherish her memory in their hearts forever.
Goodbye for now, until we meet again!
