William J. Welsh, 73, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2024. A lifelong Staten Islander, Bill was born and raised in Great Kills, where he resided until his death. Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran, who served on the USS Leonard F Mason during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star. After his discharge from the Navy, Bill was employed with Verizon, where he retired after more than 20 years. He began a second career as the IT Director at HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services, before retiring in his mid-sixties. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Lina (nee DeSantis), his two children, Jessica Welsh Thomas and Michael Welsh. Bill’s siblings, Bobby (d. 2022), Ronny, Ginny, and Brian, along with 4 grandchildren, Scarlett, Emily, and Lily Welsh and Isabella Thomas. Right Worshipful William J. Welsh was a member of the Great Kills Lodge 912. Bill also served his fellow Veterans through participation in military associations, such as the American Legion and the Masonic War Veterans.
Viewing to be held at Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home on Staten Island from 5 pm – 9 pm on Thursday, October 17th.
Masonic service to be held at 7:30pm.
